Dumpster Fire In Gordy Estates

At around 01:03 Station 23 was alerted to a dumpster fire in the area of Harwood Rd in Gordy Estates. Deputy 23 {J. Dierolf} & 238 {P. Young} responded to the scene. Engine 23-2 under the command of 23 captain 1 {D. Moorhead} + 4 firefighters & driver responded to the scene. Found a 30 yard construction dumpster to be well off with fire. Firefighters quickly advanced an inch & three quarter trash line and made a quick knock down. Engine 23-2 returned to quarters within the hour.

House Fire

Units operated early this morning at Box 30-00, 1215 Newport Gap Pike. Engine 235 arrived first to find a one story ranch style home, with heavy fire conditions. 232 arrived shortly after 235, and secured a water supply for 235. Both crews operated under extreme heat and fire conditions, and at one time had three lines in service off of E-235. This was the fourth suspicious fire in just a few hours this morning in the area. Units operated for approximately 2 hours.

Just before 4 a.m. Units were alerted for a structure fire in the area of 30 N. Perdue Ave, Box 1820. Rescue 23 responded with 8 Volunteers.  Conflicting reports given to companies while responding stated a garage or an out building on fire, 189a arrived with smoke showing, and the working fire upgrade was dispatched. After further investigation, it was found to be  a 10' x 10' detatched shed in the rear yard. Command 18 held the assignment to 182 and the 18 Truck.


 
Working Fire, Reports of people trapped

Just after 1 a.m. units were dispatched to Box 1810 for a reported structure fire with people trapped. Chief 188 arrived on the scene (206 Moores Lane) and reported a three story frame with heavy fire showing. Rescue Company 23 was alerted as the RIT Company, and responded with 5 Volunteers. NCC Fireboard was communicating with incoming units that a mother and child were trapped on the # 3 floor. As Rescue Co. 23 arrived our crew was advised to split into two groups, one to do ladder and vent work, while the Squad driver and Officer went into the home to do an aggressive search for trapped victims. Chief 18-8 was advised that all occupants were accounted for. Members from R23's crew operated under heavy fire conditions with zero visibility while searching for trapped victims. After venting was complete, fire was through the roof on the "B" and "D" sides, Rescue 23's crew exited the structure, and "borrowed" a hand line to assist in fire operations. Crews operated for nearly 3 hours.

mvc with rollover

11:58 hours, Units were alerted for an MVC with a vehicle rollover on I 95 northbound in the area of 273. Rescue Engine 126, Rescue 23, and Engine 235 arrived to find one vehicle upright on the median barrier. Two patients from the vehicle were taken to the hospital, one being a trauma alert and the other a trauma code. Units operated for 20 minutes.


 
   
   
Working Townhouse Fire

Just after midnight  00:39,  Units were dispatched to the 1216 Box  (Saddlebrook) for a reported house fire. Rescue Engine 126 arrived with a 2 story middle of the row Townhouse reporting "smoke showing" from the second floor. 232 arrived with 7 Volunteers as the second due Engine, and secured the hydrant line for 126, pumping through our rig to them. 232's crew endured heavy smoke conditions, and ammunition rounds going off while performing  the primary searches of the residence. The crew split into two groups  to perform many tasks, searching and throwing  ground ladders, as well as ventelation. Units operated for approximately 1 1/2 hours.   Another outstanding job by the crew, keeping up the Newport  tradition of brotherhood and aggressive firefighting.


 
Structure Fire

14:11 hours July 25,  235 and Rescue Company 23 responded with 11 Volunteers for a reported structure fire in the Alban Park area. 178 arrived to find a mattress on fire in the front yard. Command held the assignment to 174 and the first due special service (R23). The origin of the fire was a mattress on fire on the 3rd floor, but  someone on scene pulled the burning mattress through the building and out to the front lawn before the arrival of any units !


 
Working Structure FIre

16:00 hours July 25, Engine 232 responded with 8 Volunteers  to a reported structure fire in the 1231 Box area. While responding, NCC Fireboard upgraded the assignment to a working fire, bringing an extra Engine and Truck Company. Rescue Engine 64 arrived with heavy fire conditions in a 2 story wood frame home. Engine 232 arrived and immediately split crews between outside vent, and the second handline on the fire floor. Units operated for just over two hours, clearing the scene at 18:05

At 17:36 Stations 3,6,12 & 23 got dispatched to an MVC on I95 around Christiana Rd. On arrival units found three vehicles had collided. Crews cleaned up the debris, one patient was transported to the hospital scene was placed under control units returned

Passing of Life Member

The officers and members of Minquas Fire Company is sad to announce the passing of Life member George F. Staker Jr. Mr. Staker is the father of our current Vice President Tim Staker. Mr. Staker held the positions of Vice President, Chief Engineer and Fire Police. Mr Staker was also a member of Five Points Fire co (station17) for 11 years. Mr Staker passed away on Friday April 9th. Funeral arrangments are as follows:

Viewing will be held on Wednesday April 14th from 6pm to 8pm at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral home located at 212 E. Justice Street Newport Delaware.

A second viewing will be held on Thursday April 15th from 10am to 11am. Service to begin at 11 am. Internmet will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetary located at 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware.

This will be a full Firefighters funeral. Any department wishing to attend should countact 2nd asst chief Lindell at station 23 (302)998-3474 or by cell at (302) 388-1367


 
First Due House Fire

On the above date while taking his children home from school Deputy Chief Joe Dierolf, noticed a large column of smoke in the Gordy Estates neighborhood. After further investigation, Deputy Chief Dierolf found a working house fire on Harwood Rd. Deputy Chief Dierolf quickly notified NCC fireboard of a house with smoke showing at 800 Harwood Rd. This alerted Station 23, Engine 17, Rescue 30, Ladder 28,  and Station 21 for the RIT. Engine 232 quickly hit the road with a crew of 4 under command of Asst Chief Elliott. Upon arrival of E232, the crew stretched an 1 3/4 handling inside the single family dwelling to begin extinguishment of the fire. Engine 175 laid 500ft of 4in supply line into E232. Ladder 28 preformed vertical ventilation. Due to a great knock down of the initial hand-line, the bulk of the fire was held to one bedroom. Chief Young had command.

Units onlocation: E232, R23, E175, E174, L28, S30, E216, FMO, NCCPD, NCC ALS.


 
   
   
Vehicle Rescue Training & Fire Call in Mill Creeks Local

Tonight the officer and some member performed a little refresher on vehicle rescue training, during the training Engine 23-2 was dispatched to assist Stations 2 & 21 on a apartment fire. Units went on scene to a fire on the stove. Units cleared and we returned to our training.
